Kalwun Health Service offers a visiting service to Gold Coast schools to complete the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Assessment to prep, primary and high school students.
At Kalwun we encourage our kids and regular clients to have their annual Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Assessment so we can ensure our clients are healthy, looking after themselves and that any health concerns are raised with us. Kalwun is committed to providing high quality health care for our clients and our staff can assist with further investigations, follow-up appointments and referrals.
The Health Assessment is conducted by a Health Worker/Nurse and Doctor from Kalwun Health Service and generally takes between 15-20 minutes per child.
If the child has a usual doctor, they can have this Health Assessment completed by them. By consenting to have your child’s health assessment performed by a Kalwun doctor, you are also consenting that you intend to use Kalwun Health Service as your usual provider for your child and to provide a majority of their services in the next 12 months. If you wish to attend on the day with your child, you will need to advise the school.
During the Health Assessment, a Health Worker/Nurse will perform the following measurements on your child before they see the doctor:
- waist measurement
- weight measurement
- height measurement
- temperature
- visual acuity test
Results will be sent out within two weeks after the Health Assessment and clients will be advised as to whether the child does or does not require a further follow-up appointment. If your child requires follow-up, a staff member will contact you or you will receive a letter in the mail regarding the need for a follow-up appointment. Once the health assessment is completed for the child, an SMS will be sent to confirm consent to have this item number billed, you will need to reply YES before Kalwun can bill for the health assessment.
Eligibility
Kalwun Health Service will visit primary and secondary schools to provide the Health Assessment for children who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
